In order to save costs during production, manufacturers try to develop parts that can be used in as many models as possible. Logically, control units are no exception in this respect. In most American states, for example, fog lights are not mandatory. If you buy a Volkswagen Golf there, it will be delivered without fog lights.
If you buy a Golf in the Netherlands, it will of course be delivered with fog lights. Nevertheless, it has the same BCM as the American model. The difference lies in the coding. This is programmed at the dealer using the chassis number and depends, among other things, on the options of the vehicle.

Like the dealer, we can of course also code the vehicle according to factory specifications. In addition, we can also carry out individual coding, for example to activate certain options that are not available as standard in your vehicle.
